Eastwood Community Centre May 25, 2015

I’ve just read a lovely message from the Eastwood Community Centre – “Thank you for a wonderful morning”.

Every so often my good friend Phyl Skinner asks me to perform at the Community Centre in Eastwood S.A., where she provides fortnightly entertainment for the elderly, in care. It’s always so special to see so much enjoyment on the faces of our audiences made up of residents from local nursing home facilities.

This morning was a treat – a magnificent morning tea – scones and cream – and all the trimmings – and then the concert.

A special guest at today’s performance was a charming young Year 11 student Shanna Lee, who has an ambition of becoming a Doctor later to specialise in Geriatric Medicine. Shanna is currently researching the importance of music in the welfare of elderly people especially those with varying degrees of dementia.

My co artist was Harry Hewson a close friend of 40 years who is always happy to join me in playing his drums and rattling the bones (we don’t call him “Mr Bones” for nothing).

We played and sang all the old favourites and from the way our audience sang along, clapped along, and tapped their toes, I’m sure we’ll have the pleasure of coming back to make it all happen again soon.
