BARRY HALL

In South Australia Barry Hall is a name synonymous with music and entertainment.  In a recent interview with Barry, Australian radio identity Peter Goers said: “I can’t remember a life without Barry somewhere entertaining South Australians: either on air or live. You’re part of our lives.”

It all began when Barry asked for piano lessons at the age of seven. A prodigious talent from a child who could learn a piece of music once and remember it for life has served in good stead for the adult Barry, who now modestly admits he must have thousands of songs in his head which he can play on cue.

A timely application at the age of 15 for the job of office boy at Radio 5DN led to the opportunity to fill in on air for two weeks – and 20 years later he was still there. For more than 30 years Barry’s talent and versatility saw him rise to prominence on radio and TV as an announcer and musician, becoming a household name through his top rating radio request shows Choose Your Own and Just for You . Barry was also there at the dawn of television, as Musical Director for children’s programs at Channel 9 including The Channel Niners , Stars of Tomorrow and Here's Humphrey .

Barry released 15 albums in the 70s and 80s ...

Barry’s career has never looked better: now in his 70s, Barry continues to be in demand as a pianist and entertainer at shopping centres, restaurants, RSL clubs, church groups and retirement villages. From rousing show tunes to energetic waltzes, sweet ballads and contemporary classics, Barry’s music conjures a joyful combination of nostalgia and toe tapping fun.

The secret to his success? “I just play what people love to hear”, he says.
